Beneath the Surface

Reclaimed Gray Barre - Story

A History of Quality

Originally sourced from a single quarry in the Provence region of France, our antique Gray Barre exudes unmatched warmth and character. Dating back to the 18th century, this rich and rustic limestone has a distinguishing softness that can make it particularly challenging to reclaim. It calcifies over time, however, increasing in density as its surface patinates. Due to its unique composition and characteristics, reclaimed Gray Barre is only recommended for interior use. The Gray Barre is salvaged from country homes, farmhouses, apartment buildings and smaller homes throughout Provence. First cut in similarly-sized pieces, the stone was typically laid by random lengths—lending a sense of uniformity and regularity to the installation.
